Sabrina Sheehy, LCSW, MSW (she/her)
I am proud to have been born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I rambled and roamed for a number of years, but I always knew that I would return to the Pacific Northwest. While undoubtedly a winding path, here I am, overjoyed to serve the Portland/SW Washington community.
Following graduation from high school, I set out for Nashville, TN to study the music business and develop a career as a singer/songwriter. I attended Belmont University and called Nashville my home for almost 8 years. I learned so much about the craft of making music, but more importantly, the vulnerability and ego-shattering uncertainty required to put ones art into the world. I had always been interested in listening to and learning about people’s personal stories. Writing songs and singing folk tunes seemed so natural - they are our stories set to music. As I regularly found myself a beneficiary of counseling while trying to navigate the tumultuous world of the music industry, I often pictured myself on the other side of the room... in the listening space. After exploring my interest by taking some counseling psychology and social work courses and working as a volunteer in a group home, I decided to shift my path. In 2006 I began the graduate program in social work at Boston College and graduated with an MSW in 2008. While in Boston, I worked as a counselor in a middle school and also as a therapist for adult individuals at a community mental health agency. Upon returning to the Portland/Vancouver area, I worked as a therapist for a local community mental health agency and spent the next three years working with children and families.
After beginning my private practice in 2012, I set out to support those in our community who provide relief for others during times of crises: healthcare providers, parents, school staff, and artists of all genres. I served this community of incredible humans during the pandemic and I am particularly proud of the work I did during that time, as I also struggled to balance life as a parent, healthcare provider, and, when given the opportunity, an artist.
I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am deeply passionate about the social and cultural issues affecting the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our society. I pledge to continue to challenge myself to embody an anti-racist approach and acknowledge that my office space and my home are built on stolen land. I will continue to strive to make activism, advocacy, and community service an integral part of my life. I encourage clients to put voice to their needs and desires around being seen and heard: culturally, spiritually, and wholistically. Beautiful and wonderful things come from listening.
